Play Your Way, Every Day!

Water PLAY

Swimming, boating, and other water activities are at the centre of summer plans for many people in Bruce, Grey and beyond. Being close to so many lakes and rivers makes it easy and relatively inexpensive to enjoy some water-time. Getting outside, both in and on the water, is something that the whole family can enjoy. Plus, it’s a great way to stay off of screens and get our bodies moving!

Besides beaches and lakes, many municipalities also have swimming pools – check your municipal website for details.

While enjoying the water this summer, it is important to take precautions to stay safe. Even one drowning is one too many. This week is National Drowning Prevention Week, and earlier this month Canadians got Hooked on Lifejackets during National Fishing Week.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to help you enjoy all the Bruce Grey has to offer this summer:

  • If you’re not within arms’ reach, you’ve gone too far. Always supervise children in and around water.
  • Substance use and swimming don’t mix. Stay sober when in and around water.
  • Choose it. Use it. Always wear a Lifejacket or PFD.
  • Baby Boomers need to adjust their risk taking as they age. They may be older but not as resilient in a life-threatening situations. Know your current swimming ability.
