Healthy Growth and Development, a call to action!

Measures of developmental health consistently show children in Grey Bruce are vulnerable in areas of physical health and well-being, including fine and gross motor skills.

Young children need to develop fine and gross motor skills early to help them learn. Children practice gross motor skills when they run, jump, climb, throw, catch, balance and coordinate, and fine motor skills when they pick things up, use scissors or crayons, and button or zip clothing.  There are many simple and fun activities that families can do together to help develop these skills, and a resource for parents and families is available to help children develop the basic motor skills necessary for school readiness. Visit the Grey Bruce Health Unit Motor Skill Development website for more information.
