Longest Day of PLAY
Saugeen Shores captures Longest Day of PLAY title for 2012
The Longest Day of PLAY physical activity challenge was a true battle with a number of municipalities vying for a place in the top three. "We knew going in there were 6-8 municipalities that had a shot at the top three - but even we were surprised by the results," said Jason Weppler, one of the co-orgnaizers of the event. "We figured the top three from 2011 as well as the top three from the Shortest Day of PLAY event woud be in contention." The biggest surprise, however, came from the Town of Saugeen Shores and the Municipality of Brockton who had not factored into the top three in the past. "Brockton certainly caught us by surprise," said Weppler.
In total, Grey Bruce saw 10 municipalities exceed the 1000 hours mark - which is a huge increase over 2011. The top three finished as follows:
- Saugeen Shores 3582 hours
- Grey Highlands 3032 hours
- Brockton 2491 hours
Rounding out the top five were Kincardine and Arran-Elderslie.
